Lassi is the main holiday resort on the island and
nearest to the capital, Argostoli.
Its good hotels, apartments/studios, plentiful
restaurants/tavernas/bars and beautiful sandy beaches make it very
popular with the tourists. Its central location on the island makes
it an ideal starting place for exploring Kefalonia.
Lassi itself, however, has many places of interest. The small chapel
and cave of Agios Gerasimos, the patron Saint of the island, who
lived here as a hermit for six years, is situated uphill off the
main street.

The scenic Fanari coastal road to Argostoli starts in
Lassi and provides beautiful views, small secluded bays, and
welcoming refreshments at Oskars café-bar where you can take
photographs of the tortoises. From here you can take a short cut
over the hill into Argostoli, passing the two little churches of
Agios Gerasimos and Agios Thanasis on the way. At the top you will
have a panoramic view of the bay, Argostoli, Lixouri, Vardiani
Island(Rabbit Island) and the whole of Lassi. The ridge footpath to
the left brings you to the Italian Monument.
Along the coastal road you will see the lovely St. Theodoros
lighthouse and the Katavothres water wheel with its strange
phenomenon. You will pass the area which is dedicated to the memory
of the Italian soldiers and officers who served on the island in
World War 2. A plaque marks the grave of 136 men of the Acqui
Division who were executed here by the Germans in September 1943.
the Italian Memorial Monument is signposted up hill from here.
This walk from Lassi to Argostoli will give you lots to see and lots
to think about, and in the evening offers the best sunsets on the
island.
No wonder many tourists return to Lassi year after year.
