Superb family run
We had a warm, friendly welcome chat with the young smiley waiter, which set off our stay perfectly. The room was typically Greek studio style, simple, but immaculately clean with a 2nd floor balcony view to die for over looking the Cypress tree woods and sea. Perfect for watching the sunset. The country kitchen garden was full of beautiful flowers, lemon and orange trees and olive groves. Along with artichokes, herbs and other vegetables, which were used in the restaurant. Chickens and Turkeys roam free (Mr Cockerel tends to give you and early morning wake up call, but just adds to the magic) and on the hillside to the rear you can hear the bells of mountain goats. All the rooms are sea facing with the first and second floors having the best views.
The restaurant cuisine is high quality and well presented. The menu is a modern take on classic Greek cuisine, a bit different from the usual taverna fayre, but still reasonably priced. People seemed to make the effort to travel there for lunch or dinner from all over. Locally it has a great reputation and rightly so, as the food was superb, starters – chicken, bacon and cheese crepes with yogurt honey (the name does not do them justice -delicate and delicious), mains – slow cooked pork neck in a rich aromatic jus with sweet potato puree, finished off with Mammys Baklava (home made of course).
Argostoli is a 15 minute walk up the steep hill through the woods and Lassi 15 minutes by foot along the road and the walk to the lighthouse along the Cypress tree lined lane is very relaxing.
Beeches are near and far and all slightly different, from secluded isolation (Kamaria, 5 mins up the road) to sunbeds and water sports.
The whole family are really friendly (and funny) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning as soon as is humanly possible.
Thank you for a great week!
