Kefalonia is simply amazing. It has so many beatiful corners to discover and it's so various: from long white sand beaches close to Argostoli to the wide reefs that dig into the blue close to Kipuria! From red sand beaches in Lixouri to green olive and cypress forests that touch the water in Fiskardo and Sami. And then Drogarati caves and Melissani lake that are particular and nice to see and the breathtaking beaches of Petanus and Myrtos with unforgettable sunsets. If you look for nightlife visit Argostoli. Kefalonia is one of the best places in the world crystal clear sea, peaceful beaches, good food, freedom and nature!

In Kefalonia, we stayed in a small hotel in Lassi and enjoyed nice calm beaches in the area (Gradakia beach). Lassi was very beautiful and had some great views and beaches. Shops were as expected, tourist items. We found the best restaurant in the entire island in Lassi, a great Greek restaurant, near the centre of the Lassi main road (oskars restaurant). Kefalonia generally has a safe and warm friendly atmosphere, extremely low crime rate, unspoilt villages, reasonable nightlife without any rowdy and unruly people. Eating out is a pleasure. Most people spoke English, which was very helpful.

My eyes have never seen before so much green and blue altogether as in Kefalonia! A remarkably clean island and I was given the chance to try beauty mask made of argilus that my children gathered from the cliffs on the beach in Katelios. Above us was the mountain Ainos and a local granny said to us that on the crown of it there are wild horses. I did not spot them by I was lucky enough to see a strange phenomenon that is very common though among locals.
In the village of Markopoulo there is an orthodox church of the Virgin and in August, inside you will find plenty small snakes, harmless though, with Red Cross on their heads and tongues, to praise the Virgin Mary in August.
It is not strange though that here was shot the film Captain Corelli's Mandolin and to tell the truth gave me the idea to spend my vacation there. Eat at Oskars restaurant and drink also local wine robola, are the best!!!

Kefalonia is a very nice island. It is great for relaxing and has amazing beaches. Certainly go to Myrtos and then get off the beaten track and discover your own small paradises: there are plenty of small beaches where you can be almost all alone, even in high season. The island is so big that it is so easy to get lost from crowds!

My husband Mark and I got back 2 weeks ago from our 3rd trip to Kefalonia. The weather was incredibly hot, (too hot for me sadly) so beach times were limited to early mornings and very, very late afternoons /early evenings. Luckily, we don't like to spend all day lying down, and having a hire car we were as usual able to tour the island, visiting places we already knew and some new ones.
We went for the first time to the lake at Karavomilos, although we had been to Sami lots of times. We also discovered Melissani beach and its fantastic beach bar and pool. A first visit to the Drogarati caves was well worth it, as was the gift shop there. My favourite day out was to Davgata and the museum of Natural History, housed in a relatively small building, it is a fantastic mine of information, and the village itself is lovely. We were allowed into the church where the locals were preparing for a baptism, and a very kind lady explained everything that was going to happen.
We found Fiskado has become very expensive, and we were told a lot of yachting people now go to Agia Efima instead.
We stayed at the Oskars studios, which are family run studios. Although only the service, cleanliness and views are worth a lot more than that. We would definitely stay there again. The flat euro rate has meant that our holiday was quite a lot more expensive than the last time we were there, and it was really quiet everywhere we went on the island. Restaurant staff and local people told us it is the quietest June for a long, long time.
We usually go on holiday in September, and I have to admit from a temperature point of view, I couldn't go again in June, September is normally slightly cooler, and while I love the sun, I don't like oppressive heat. As this was our third stay in Kefalonia, and our 4th visit to the island in 5 years, we have decided not to go back for a few years. We like to discover new places and things to do, any ideas anyone?
